As we all know, “Mishenichnas Adar, Marbin B’Simcha – When Adar comes, we increase our joy.” (Taanis 29a)
One way to increase your happiness is actually very easy – just smile!
The Sefer HaChinuch (Mitzvah #16) explains that our actions affect our feelings. For example, a person who acts in a refined manner will ultimately build himself into being a more refined person.
The same applies to happiness. Even if you are not feeling happy right now, if you smile, it will make you feel happy!
Your Challenge
To try this out, here is a bonus challenge in honor of Rosh Chodesh Adar II:
Smile at yourself in the mirror while thinking about something that makes you happy.
For example:
- I am so happy that it’s sunny outside today! (SMILE)
- I am so happy that I am not sick today! (SMILE)
